Oprah Winfrey sees her portrait unveiled at Smithsonian gallery

The painting was created by Shawn Michael Warren, a Chicago artist, who came to Winfrey’s attention when he included the talk show host’s likeness in a mural he painted in the city three years ago.

Winfrey told the crowd that the colour purple “has been seminal” in her life.

Her role in the 1985 film The Color Purple helped make her a movie star and she’s a producer on the upcoming film version of The Color Purple musical.
